EVOLUTION OF CENTRAL ASIA-JAPAN INTERACTION FORMATS: THE FORMATION AND PROSPECTS OF REGIONAL DIALOGUE

Abstract
This article examines the institutionalization, functional evolution, and strategic prospects of the «Central Asia + Japan» multilateral dialogue format from its establishment in 2004 to 2025-2026. Specifically, it focuses on the transformation of Japan-Central Asian relations from consultative and humanitarian initiatives to a full-fledged infrastructural and economic partnership. The paper examines key milestones in the format's development. Particular emphasis is placed on the outcomes of the first-ever Summit of Heads of State in Tokyo (December 19-20, 2025) and the adoption of the Tokyo Declaration. It concludes that the format has finally emerged as a stable and regular body for strategic planning in the Eurasian region.
